Los Angeles police were investigating a triple-shooting in Silver Lake that left a 15-year-old girl dead, authorities said Tuesday.

The shootings were discovered shortly after midnight Monday when police responded to a call about a prowler at Bellevue Park in the 800 block of Lucille Avenue, said Det. Fred Faustino of the LAPD’s Rampart Division.

When police arrived, they heard a gunshot that they say came from the direction of Jose Chavez, 23, of Los Angeles, Faustino said. No officers were injured, but Chavez was arrested on charges of assaulting police officers.

Police said that when they arrested Chavez, they found that he had apparently shot himself accidentally in the hand before their arrival. Chavez was treated for the wound at County-USC Medical Center.

Police then found the body of the teenager, Guadalupe Solis of Los Angeles, who had died from a gunshot to the upper torso at a different location in the park, Faustino said.

Later, police discovered that a third victim, Bobby Ferris, 23, of Los Angeles had been taken by a friend to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. Police say Ferris, who was shot in the arm and hip, had fled the scene to the friend’s house. Ferris was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon, Faustino said.

“We believe the shootings are related,” Faustino said. “More than likely it was gang-related. Gang members are known to frequent that area.”

Police have no suspects in the killing.
