Slain Driver Was an Anaheim Teen
A teenage driver who died Tuesday after being shot by a pedestrian was identified as Benjamin Escobar, 16, of Anaheim, police said.
Escobar and two companions were driving on Dale Street in Garden Grove about 5:30 p.m. when they got into an argument with two teens walking on the street. One pedestrian shot Escobar and one of his companions, police said. The car struck a tree and overturned.
Names of Escobar’s two companions were not released because of their ages. One of them--a 17-year-old boy from Garden Grove--was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, where he was treated for a gunshot wound and released. The other, a runaway 13-year-old Huntington Beach girl, was placed in protective custody at Orangewood Children’s Home, investigators said.
On Wednesday police were still looking for the two pedestrians, described as boys in their mid-teens.
