USC Won’t Spend Summer in Irvine

Share

The USC football team is expected to remain on campus for summer training camp rather than go to UC Irvine, as it has in recent years. New Coach Pete Carroll said he favors staying at home to avoid the complication of moving truckloads of equipment.

The Trojans shifted to Irvine in 1984 when they were displaced by the L.A. Olympics. The practice was discontinued for a while by former coach John Robinson, then reinstated by his successor, Paul Hackett.

This summer, the team is considering holding a scrimmage or fan event in Orange County. Carroll also has left open the possibility the Trojans will return to Irvine in the future.
