More Rain Expected by Sunday

Share

Did you enjoy that warm, sunny weather we had Thursday? Too bad, ‘cause it’s not going to last.

Forecasters said skies will become increasingly cloudy today, with a chance of a few light showers tonight and Saturday. Fairly heavy rain is expected Sunday, with showers through much of next week.

The computer models “seem to be leaning toward a wetter pattern, especially on Sunday,” the National Weather Service said Thursday night. “In fact, the pattern looks strikingly similar to last Sunday, when it rained quite heavily in the Los Angeles Basin.”

Another white weekend is expected at ski resorts in the Tehachapi, San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains.

“Snow levels will start at around 6,000 feet, but will lower to around 5,000, or perhaps even lower, by Sunday,” the weather service said. “We could be talking about another 2 to 4 feet of snow in the mountains by Monday.”

Precipitation totals are well above normal for this time of year. In downtown Los Angeles, the total rainfall for the season, which runs from July 1 through June 30, was 15.66 inches on Thursday, compared with a normal season total by March 1 of 10.90 inches.
