Loyola Marymount Wins, Pepperdine Loses

Loyola Marymount (20-8) got 16 points each from Bryn Britton and Adrienne Slaughter in a 63-53 victory over San Diego (10-12) in the first round of the West Coast Conference Tournament at San Diego. It was the first time Loyola Marymount has won in the tournament. . . . Alica Hernandez scored 26 points to lead San Francisco (13-15) to a 78-73 victory over Pepperdine (20-10). Nadja Morgan had 19 points for Pepperdine, which had not lost in the first round of the tournament since 1995. . . . The tournament’s individual scoring record was broken in successive games. Da’Love Woods of Portland (14-14) was the first to do it, scoring 31 points in an 86-65 victory over Santa Clara (20-7). Junior Jessica Malone then scored 33 points for Gonzaga (5-23) in an 84-59 loss to St. Mary’s (23-5). Today’s matchups are Loyola Marymount against San Francisco and St. Mary’s against Portland.
