Runaway Car Lands on Another Car; 5 Hurt

Share

Five people were injured Saturday, one seriously, after a car whose brakes failed struck a median, became airborne and landed on another car, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. when Ingela Lindstedt, 25, of Venice exited the northbound Ventura Freeway at Moorpark Road and was unable to stop at the bottom of the offramp, authorities said.

Lindstedt was going about 45 mph when her Ford Mustang crossed the northbound lanes on Moorpark Road and struck a concrete median, said California Highway Patrol Officer Keith Bianco.

The Mustang became airborne and landed on a Honda Accord carrying four people, Bianco said. The Accord then rolled backward and struck a Toyota Forerunner carrying two people.

The Accord driver, Jonathan Dressler, 21, of Thousand Oaks suffered second-degree burns to his right arm, back and chest from radiator fluid that leaked from the Mustang into his car through a shattered window, Bianco said.

Dressler was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Bianco said. His condition was not immediately available but CHP officers described his injuries as serious.

Three male passengers in Dressler’s car, all from Thousand Oaks, and Lindstedt were treated at the hospital for minor cuts. A passenger in Lindstedt’s car and two people in the Forerunner were not injured.

No citations were issued. The accident is under investigation.
