Long Beach Earns No. 3 Seed in Big West
Senior Ramel Lloyd scored 29 points in his final regular-season game and guard Ron Johnson added 17 points as Long Beach State defeated Pacific, 82-72, at the Pyramid.
With the win, the 49ers (18-12, 10-6) clinched the No. 3 seed in the Big West Conference tournament in Anaheim and will play Boise State (16-13, 8-8) in Thursday’s first round. Pacific (16-11, 8-8) finished fifth and will play UC Santa Barbara (13-14, 9-7) in the first round. In other games, top-seeded UC Irvine (24-3, 15-1) plays Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (9-18, 3-3) and Utah State (22-5, 13-3) faces Cal State Fullerton (5-22, 3-13).

Cal State San Bernardino (23-3), which won the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. title, earned a first-round bye in the Division II tournament that begins Friday.
San Bernardino will play either Seattle Pacific or Central Washington on Saturday. Cal State Bakersfield (20-7) will open first-round play against Humboldt State in a West sub-regional Thursday at Bellingham, Wash.
In the women’s tournament, CCAA champion Cal Poly Pomona (22-3) earned a top seed and will host either Western Washington or Central Washington in the second round Friday.
Cal State Bakersfield (21-9), in its first season of women’s basketball, will play Alaska Fairbanks in the first round of a sub-regional Friday at Seattle Pacific.
