Kapono Sorry About Remarks
Jason Kapono said Tuesday that he spoke out of frustration after the Stanford game when he told reporters he felt like a forgotten man in the offense.
“It was the heat of the moment, plus it was because we lost,” said Kapono, who scored eight points against the Cardinal on two-of-seven shooting. “I was more mad at myself for not helping my team win.”
In a team meeting Monday, Kapono apologized to his teammates for his comments.
Regardless, the numbers don’t lie. And in three of the last five games, Kapono has shot seven or fewer times. He has not led his team in scoring since the DePaul game a month ago.
Kapono is averaging 17 points a game, fourth in the Pacific 10 Conference.
“Getting shots for him has never been a problem,” Coach Steve Lavin said, adding that the hallmark of his team has been the way the scoring wealth is spread. Seven Bruins have scored at least 20 points in a game.

Recruits Michael Fey and Cedric Bozeman have not yet achieved scores that meet the NCAA’s minimum requirement for eligibility, the Daily News reported. UCLA does not admit partial qualifiers.
Fey, a 6-foot-11 center from Olympia, Wash., and Bozeman, a 6-6 guard from Santa Ana Mater Dei, have at least two more chances to retake their ACT or SAT exams in time to enroll for the fall quarter.
