‘Fernwood’ Humor

Regarding the article about the “Fernwood 2Night” reunion in Aspen, Colo., (“Festival Leaves ‘Em Laughing,” by Hilary Stunda, March 5), it should be pointed out that the cue-card man had no trouble keeping up, as he is one of the best in the business. Rather, Barth Gimble’s line, “Card, please,” was scripted. Those fans of “Fernwood 2Night” (starring Martin Mull as Barth and my husband, Fred Willard, as Jerry Hubbard) surely remember Barth’s use of cue cards as part of the fun of the show.

For those of us lucky enough to be in the audience, the wry humor of Gilbert Gottfried; a sexy nude woman; David Alan Grier’s reaction to Jerry Hubbard singing “Feets Don’t Fail Me Now”; and “The Shroud of Turin Beach Towel” from Gimbleco Inc. (allowing you to worship the sun . . . and the Father and the Holy Ghost) are just the kind of “subtle” comedy we love.
