* Albert Heschong; Won Emmy for Set Design

Albert Heschong, 82, an Emmy Award-winning production designer for television, film and theater. Head of the art department at CBS from 1962 until his retirement in the 1980s. Heschong designed sets for everything from anthology dramas to situation comedies. Heschong was awarded an Emmy as art director for the 1956 production of “Requiem for a Heavyweight,” a classic “Playhouse 90” drama, which starred Jack Palance. Born in Cincinnati, Heschong graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University. During Word War II he served in the U.S. Army supervising photo reconnaissance in the Burma-India theater. Other productions that Heschong designed included “The Miracle Worker,” “No Time for Sergeants,” and “Judgment at Nuremberg.” In television, Heschong put his art direction brand on shows like “Gunsmoke,” “Hawaii Five-O,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” and “The Red Skelton Show.” On March 1 at his Encino home of a cerebral hemorrhage.
