Tech Gathering to Focus on Optical Fibers

The Optical Fiber Communication Conference scheduled to begin Saturday at the Anaheim Convention Center will focus on finding cost-effective means to expand the reach of fiber-optic networks, now used mostly to link cities and towns, into homes and small businesses. Southern California is one of the nation’s primary hubs of fiber-optic technology, which speeds digital information on the backs of light particles rather than on electrons, the slower workhorse of copper-wire telecommunications.
