Marshall Dealt for Minor Leaguer

Share

Pierre Gauthier, team president and general manager, continued to retool the Ducks Tuesday, dealing veteran defenseman Jason Marshall to the Washington Capitals for minor league defenseman Alexei Tezikov and a fourth-round draft pick. Tezikov was assigned to Cincinnati of the American Hockey League.

Marshall, 30, will become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and Gauthier was concerned about re-signing him. Marshall played 347 games for the Ducks and has three goals and seven points in 50 games this season.

“We have a player [Marshall] who’s unrestricted and we have no intention of re-signing him,” Gauthier said. “We might as well get something for him. We might as well get an asset.”

Tezikov, 6 feet 1 and 208 pounds, has spent all of 2000-01 in the minors, scoring seven goals and 31 points in 58 games for Portland, Maine, of the AHL.
