In the championship game at the Downey tournament:
Loara 4, San Pedro 2--Alicia Owen had three RBIs and three hits for the Saxons (8-0), including a triple and a two-run homer in the fourth inning that gave Loara a 3-2 lead. Katie Joosten (4-0) gave up five hits as Loara handed San Pedro (9-1) its first loss of the season.
In Serra League baseball:
No. 2 Mater Dei 12, Santa Margarita 1 (6, mercy)--Warren Chenier pitched a two-hitter for the Monarchs (7-0, 1-0), and Tim Stewart and Sergio Santos each hit three-run homers.
In nonleague games:
Edison 4-1, No. 2 San Clemente 1-2--Ryan King’s third home run in two days, a solo shot in the eighth inning, won the second game of the doubleheader for host San Clemente (7-1).
No. 1 La Quinta 7-10, Dana Hills 0-6--Blake Crosby had three hits in the second game for La Quinta (9-0), including a home run and a double. Dana Hills led, 4-2, in the fifth before the Aztecs scored five runs in the bottom of the inning.
La Quinta won the first game, 7-0, behind Ian Kennedy’s five-hitter.
No. 9 Villa Park 2-14, Long Beach Millikan 4-0--Bryan Arguello had a triple, single, two RBIs and three runs and Ricky Sims had two doubles and two RBIs for visiting Villa Park (5-3) in the second game, which was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.
Colin Higgins had two hits and Dan Reid pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs, in the first game.
At the Orange County Championships boys’ volleyball tournament:
Newport Harbor, Foothill advance--Blake Tippett had 17 kills to help Newport Harbor, ranked sixth in the county, defeat Marina in the Division I semifinals, 15-13, 13-15, 15-11, at Edison High.
In the quarterfinals, Newport Harbor defeated fifth-ranked Mater Dei, 15-8, 10-15, 15-12, and unranked Marina defeated third-ranked Capistrano Valley, 15-12, 15-5.
Foothill, ranked fourth in the county, defeated top-ranked Santa Margarita in the quarterfinals, 12-15, 15-5, 15-11, then defeated No. 7 Irvine, 15-8, 15-7, in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, Irvine defeated second-ranked Fountain Valley, 15-11, 15-6.
Newport Harbor and Foothill play in the Division I championship match at 7 p.m. Monday at Edison High. In the Division II final, Ocean View will play Dana Hills at 5 p.m.
