A Kurt Weill Celebration Opens the Season at Ford Amphitheatre

The 2001 Ford Amphitheatre summer season will offer 34 events, May 26-Sept. 24, and will begin Memorial Day weekend with a Kurt Weill celebration, May 26.

That event features jazz musician Roger Kellaway leading a 27-member big band, including vocalist Anne Kerry Ford and blues guitarist Robben Ford. The season ends with an appearance by the classical ensemble the Eroica Trio, Sept. 24.

Among other classical music events are appearances by the Shanghai String Quartet (June 25), members of the L.A. Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jeffrey Kahane (June 4), Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra (July 8), I Palpiti Chamber Orchestra (Aug. 2), L.A. Baroque Orchestra (Sept. 2) and the L.A. Mozart Orchestra (Aug. 18).

Among dance attractions, the participants will include Aeolian Ballet Theatre (July 27), Hysterica Dance Company (July 15), Jazz Tap Ensemble (Aug. 11), Lula Washington Dance Theatre (Sept. 1), Maria Bermudez and Company (Sept. 7-9), and Trip Dance Theatre (Sept. 6).
