Irvine’s Bassani, Abe Rock, but Newport Harbor Rolls

Irvine’s Mario Bassani and Peter Abe established personal-best marks Thursday, but visiting Newport Harbor won the Sea View League boys’ track and field meet, 103-29.

Bassani won the 200 meters in 21.8 seconds and the 400 in a county-leading 48.5. Abe went 22 feet in the long jump, equaling the county-leading mark by Tustin’s Denny Casupanan.

The Sailors started with an impressive victory in the 400 relay, winning by one second in 43.7. They followed by winning 10 of the remaining 15 events, including double victories by Jesus Santana (1,600, 3,200), Dan Moyer (110 and 300 hurdles), Dave Marshall (shotput, discus) and John Peschelt (high jump, 800).
