2 Quakes Hit Near Ontario, Ludlow
Two small quakes rattled areas east of Los Angeles on Saturday, but no damage or injuries were reported.
A magnitude-3.0 quake struck just before 1:07 a.m. and was centered eight miles northwest of Ludlow, said Sue Hough of the U.S. Geological Survey. It was considered an aftershock to the 7.1-magnitude Hector Mine temblor in 1999, which shook a remote part of the Mojave Desert. There have been thousands of aftershocks since then.
The second quake struck about 4:41 p.m. and was located about five miles east of Ontario, according to the Southern California Seismic Network. There were no reports of injuries or damages.
“It wasn’t a roll, it was just a quick jolt,” said Janet Dorsett, a dispatch supervisor for the Ontario Fire Department.
Ludlow is about 135 miles northeast of Los Angeles along Interstate 40.
Ontario is about 35 miles east of Los Angeles.
