Edward R. Lambert; Orthopedic Surgeon

Edward Reynolds Lambert, a longtime county resident and retired orthopedic surgeon, has died at the age of 84.

Lambert, who died Saturday at Ojai Valley Community Hospital, was born Oct. 13, 1916, in Iowa City, Iowa, the youngest of five children.

He graduated in 1940 from the University of Iowa Medical School, where his father was a professor and chairman of the School of Engineering. He received his orthopedic training at the University of Iowa and UC San Francisco.

During World War II, he was a major in a MASH unit in the South Pacific.

He was a member of the Ventura County Medical Society and the California Medical Assn., a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

He was co-founder of the Ventura Orthopaedic and Sports Medical Group; he practiced in Ventura County for 34 years.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer who participated in numerous amateur tournaments, including the Bing Crosby pro-am in Pebble Beach. He was a member of the Saticoy Country Club and past member of the Ojai Valley Inn, where he holds the course record of 62 on the original golf course. He was club champion at both courses many times.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eugenia, of Ojai; daughters Cathy Estill and Priscilla Brennan of Ojai, and Anne Lambert of Alaska; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation.

At his request, there will be no service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home, Ojai.
