Two reasons to visit MOCA at the Geffen Contemporary: the critically acclaimed permanent collection exhibition “A Room of Their Own: From Arbus to Gober” and “Public Offerings,” a new, big, splashy survey of pivotal work by artists who became international art stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s, opening Sunday. The long-planned show is the brainchild of MOCA chief curator Paul Schimmel, who brought us “Helter Skelter” and “Out of Actions,” among other landmark exhibitions. “Public Offerings” will examine breakthrough works in the context of the schools and urban centers--L.A., Berlin, New York and Tokyo--that spawned the 25 artists, including Matthew Barney, Renee Green, Damien Hirst, Steve McQueen, Takashi Murakami and Rachel Whiteread.
