Domain Name Firm Soars: Shares of Register.com Inc., which registers Internet domain names, Wednesday jumped nearly 20%, after posting late Tuesday a first-quarter profit and maintaining its guidance on growth prospects. Share rose $1.50 to close at $9.08 on the Nasdaq after reaching as high as $9.69. The New York-based company posted first-quarter net income of $2 million, or 4 cents a share, compared with a loss of $991,000, or a 4-cent loss, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose to $30.7 million from $4.7 million in the prior year. Shares of Register.com have fallen from a high of $116 in March 2000, and have traded below $10 since October.
