Prayer Breakfast Theme Is ‘Israel and Palestine: Local Voices’

The theme of the third annual Prayer Breakfast at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills will be “Israel and Palestine: Local Voices.” The Friday breakfast is hosted jointly by the medical center, the Interfaith Council of South Orange County and the National Conference for Community and Justice.

Senior Rabbi Allen Krause of Temple Beth El in Aliso Viejo and Ra’id Faraj from the Council on American-Islamic Relations will speak. The Rev. Edward Martin of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Mission Viejo will serve as emcee. Representatives of many faith communities will read scriptures, and music will be provided. A Baroque Festival will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday as part of St. John’s Concert series at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Orange. The festival will feature the Cathedral Singers, instrumentalists and organ. An offering will be taken. St. John’s is at 185 S. Center St. (714) 288-4400.

Congregation B’nai Tzedek of Fountain Valley will conduct its annual Shabbaton with the theme “The Mark Twain Dilemma: Will Judaism Survive?” Friday and Saturday. The program will explore the role of the Jewish people in shaping the cultures in which we live. Mark Twain addressed many Jewish issues in his writings, including anti-Semitism. His writings take a position as an advocate for Jews and for all oppressed individuals and cultures. Rabbi Jay N. Miller will act as the guide for this program. The Shabbaton begins at 8:15 p.m. Friday. The program continues at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with worship, lunch and an afternoon study session. Lunch reservations are requested. SEMINARS

Style is the focus of “Adorn Yourself for Godliness,” a fashion extravaganza presented by the Women’s Ministry of Macedonia Christian Fellowship Church. Actress and author Maura Gale will serve as mistress of ceremonies for the May 12 event, which begins at 3 p.m. at Wood Canyon Elementary’s Performing Arts Center in Aliso Viejo. A runway show will feature the fashions of Los Angeles-area designers, ranging from teen to bridal, ethnic to contemporary, with Macedonia members modeling. “Follow Your Dreams: The Bottom Line,” a workshop led by Gene Wall Cole, will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Huntington Beach Church of Religious Science. The Muslim Public Affairs Council--Orange County will host a symposium on Jerusalem called “Dispelling the Myths” from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cal State Fullerton. The Rev.
