Slain Woman’s Boyfriend Held
The boyfriend of a San Clemente woman found stabbed to death in her apartment was arrested in Texas when he was found asleep in a canoe along the banks of the Rio Grande River, police said Monday.
Robert Karl Russell, 40, was arrested on weapons charges and will be questioned in the death of Cheryl L. Joyner, whose body was found Saturday in her San Clemente apartment, authorities said.
Police in Cameron County, Texas, said they found Joyner’s car, with her purse inside, parked near the river.
Police said Russell, armed with a .22-caliber rifle, identified himself as a tourist and said he had been hunting.
He and Joyner met in an Internet chat room three months ago, and Russell moved from Missouri to her apartment a month later, neighbors and police said.
