Woman Killed After Van Drives Onto Sidewalk
One woman was killed and a young girl was among five people injured when a minivan jumped a street corner in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon and drove onto a sidewalk outside a homeless mission, authorities said.
Several of the injured pedestrians were pinned under the van that had collided with another car at around 4:44 p.m. at Los Angeles and 4th streets, said LAPD Sgt. Roy Ballesteros.
A woman in her 30s died shortly after being transported to County-USC Medical Center. Her 10-year-old daughter was in critical condition. The other injuries were minor.
Police are investigating the accident. The van’s driver was not cited, but there was a possible red light violation, Officer Jason Lee said.
