On the Town, Tarzana to Bel-Air

Tarzana rocks! Last week’s performance by the Dickies at Paladino’s was bebop, man, pure and simple. So punk, it was jazz. . . . Caught Burgundy Room doorman Torrance Jackson performing an after-hours set at the Hotel Cafe. So jazz, it was punk. . . . High rollers of the week: Tempest’s Michael Najjar and JCOR prez Jay Faires. Najjar and I dished over fish at Sushi Ko, my favorite Bel-Air sushi joint, while Faires chowed down with me at the Chateau Marmont. Rock ‘n’ roll . . . An observation from the land of scene queens: Addled brains, plus oversize egos, equals abrupt endings to important long-term friendships. . . . Dayle Gloria’s hot new tip: Talented Chicago rockers Great Ape. . . . Popped in to Cyrano to wish my favorite surfer-promoter Gregg Wadley a happy B-day and doorman Steve invited me to be a crash test dummy at tonight’s opening party for the new Hollywood Canteen. Ready, steady, go. . . . Things are going swimmingly for Joya, Chris Pike’s new fondue nightclub in Beverly Hills. For a visual, think Tatou in miniature, with cheese.
