Agoura Slips Into 2nd With Loss to Moorpark
Agoura High had the chance to keep its fate in its own hands, but it slipped away in a 12-9 loss to Moorpark on Wednesday in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.
For the Chargers to claim a share of the Marmonte League title and complete a worst-to-first turnaround, they will need help Friday.
Agoura (16-6, 8-3 in league play) is one-half game behind Westlake (20-6-1, 8-2-1). Agoura plays at Newbury Park and Westlake plays at Royal.
“We’ve never been in this position, so it’s a real character test,” Agoura catcher Chris Denove said.
Agoura ace Brandon Canning (7-3) surrendered a three-run home run to Ryan Paul in the first inning and a solo shot to Bryan Garcia in the second.
The Musketeers (17-9, 6-5) led, 9-3, after five innings and withstood Agoura’s five-run sixth inning.
Robbie Jaegge added a solo homer in the seventh for Moorpark.
Moorpark’s David Burckin (4-3) allowed two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Paul, Burckin, Garcia and Blake Sharpe each had two hits.
