Ottawa’s Jacques Martin is out of the running to become coach of the Mighty Ducks.

Ottawa will retain Martin, whose future was in doubt after the Senators were eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the third consecutive season. Duck General Manager Pierre Gauthier was prepared to hire Martin had he been fired, according to sources.

Gauthier has said he hopes to hire a coach by July 1. Among those under consideration are former Montreal coach Alain Vigneault, Colorado assistant Bryan Trottier, Phoenix assistant Rick Bowness, King assistant Dave Tippett and Detroit assistant Dave Lewis, according to sources.
