Gift to Nixon Site Means 6 Free Days for Public
A $100,000 donation to the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace will be used to offer the public free admission on at least six days of special celebration in 2001 and 2002.
The money was given by Mary Ann and Bicknell Lockhart of Orange, longtime philanthropists who made a similar gift for complimentary days to the Bowers Museum two years ago.
“The Lockharts have been members of the President’s Council, our flagship support group, for several years,” said John H. Taylor, executive director of the Nixon library. “Once again they are demonstrating their loyal support.”
The library is the only presidential library that does not receive government funds.
The free-admission days this year are: May 28, the last day of Memorial Day weekend; the Fourth of July; Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and Wassail Wednesday, Dec. 19. The free days next year are Nixon’s birthday, Jan. 9, and President’s Day, Feb. 18.
