Quick Action Saves 2 in Restaurant Blaze
Firefighters called to a blaze Monday morning at a Buena Park restaurant rescued two large koi they found floundering in a few inches of water in a damaged tank.
The fire at Thai Chinese Captain Cuisine in the 8500 block of Beach Boulevard started in the hostess area and caused $15,000 in damage.
Firefighter Adam Quinones climbed onto a bench to reach into the tank and rescue the fish. They were “flopping around and slithered out of my hand a few times,” Quinones said. “I’m a fisherman, and I was trying to be as gentle as I could. If I grabbed it too hard, it can take the slime off the fins and damage it.”
The fish were transferred to another aquarium in the restaurant.
The fire has been listed as arson, said Dennis Shell, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.
