Les Deux Cafe Draws a Tres Chic Crowd
I had lunch with C.C. DeVille at Les Deux Cafe, and it was like rock ‘n’ roll high school. Among those dining in the courtyard of the chichi Hollywood cafe were k.d. lang, Prince, Capitol Rex prez Andy Slater, Cherry’s Bryan Rabin and designer Michael Schmidt. Me and C.C. yapped up a blue streak cuz we have a lot in common: a mutual luv for Barry Manilow, Texas Terri and discount sushi.
FYI, the famed Poison guitarist, who performs a Sunday night solo set at the Cat Club on the Strip, is a huge Jon Brion fan. In the words of Weezer, how cool is that? . . . Speaking of Weezer, we took family portraits in front of the new Weezer billboard at Tower Records on Sunset. Anything for Weezer. . . . Had a lovely moment at the Viper Room on May 9, compliments of the Counting Crows, who were among such artists as Oasis and the Wallflowers to play surprise sets at the Sunset Strip nightclub in recent days. As Adam Duritz reminisced about the early Berkeley daze of the Crows, I reminisced about the time Duritz dropped off a 19-song demo tape at my home in Frisco.
Thai Elvis is the man! Not only does the handsome entertainer enchant diners at Hollywood’s Palm Tai restaurant with Elvis love songs, I followed him out on a smoke break and discovered that his car is a rhinestone Caddie, with “Elvis Forever” painted on the back window. Elvis will never leave the building. . . . Speaking of Elvis, El Vez is deejaying tonight at Beauty Bar. . . . Spent Mother’s Day weekend at the Chateau Marmont pretending I was in Paris, compliments of a Serge Gainsbourg CD I’d packed and a misty mountain view. Nothin’ like being a tourist in your hometown. . . . Watched Ellen DeGeneres rescue a lame pigeon from Barney’s valet in Beverly Hills. . . . Chris Pike tells me promoter Gregg Wadley is hosting Friday nights at Joya, Pike’s new fondue nightclub in Beverly Hills. . . . Brent Bolthouse tells me he’s brewing up something Thursday nights at the Latin Lounge. . . . Finally, Snatch, a new Monday promotion at Papaz restaurant in Hollywood, is so happening, Wyclef Jean performed there last week. Oochie, wally, wally . . .
