Pillowtex Will Close 2 Plants, Cut 780 Jobs
Pillowtex Corp., maker of Fieldcrest, Cannon and Royal Velvet home fashions, said it will close two facilities, eliminating 780 jobs, as part of its restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Pillowtex will close a sheet manufacturing plant in Kannapolis, N.C., and a towel yarn manufacturing operation in Columbus, Ga., because of declining sales amid weak textile market conditions. In addition, the company plans to scale back towel production in Kannapolis, where its corporate offices also are located.
