NEW YORK — Lynne Russell, probably the most visible anchor at CNN Headline News, is quitting the network after 18 years. Her final newscast will be today.
Russell, 54, said she wanted more time to write and to be with her boyfriend, who’s recovering from cancer surgery.
“I’ve always loved it,” she said. “But, you know, some things just have a shelf life. There have just been more days than ever before where I wanted to stay home, turn on the computer and write.”
Russell wrote a book, “How to Win Friends, Kick Ass and Influence People,” and is planning a sequel. She wants to make more public speaking engagements.
As the network’s anchorwoman weekdays from 3 to 9 p.m. Pacific time, she’s on during prime time in virtually every U.S. time zone.
Russell was one of the first anchors hired at CNN Headline News, then called CNN 2, after it went on the air in 1982.
