Raises for Social Workers

Share

I have worked for Ventura County in the Human Services Agency for 11 years. I am also a member of the Services Employees International Union Local 998. I have worked as a social worker in the Children and Family Services Department for nine years and I am currently working as a social worker in the new CalWORKS Program.

The program provides intensive services to families on welfare to assist them in becoming self-sufficient. The multiple barriers that many of these families face are quite significant; the families may experience mental health issues, substance abuse, medical problems, homelessness and learning disabilities, to name a few. The social workers that assist this population work effectively despite program obstacles.

I am writing today because it is time for union members to receive adequate pay increases. The Board of Supervisors, county management, law enforcement, firefighters and nurses have all been brought up to parity. As a dedicated county employee, I would like to see the pay of the social workers of Ventura County be brought to parity. We work very hard. Please pay us what other counties pay their social workers. Please support our effort and contact the county supervisors today.
