Firefighting Help Earns City an Award
The city has won a Sister Cities International award for a public safety project it conducted in its Argentine sister city last year.
The project, spearheaded by Orange County Fire Authority members stationed in and around San Clemente, fostered goodwill and helped improve the skills of firefighters in San Clemente del Tuyu and the nearby cities of Balcarce and Lomas de Zamora.
The Orange County firefighters obtained defibrillators, other lifesaving equipment and fire-resistant clothing for the sister city.
They also provided training to improve emergency response times, lifesaving skills and techniques for fighting brush and structure fires.
Finally, they coordinated the shipment of three firetrucks donated by an Orange County family from Argentina.
The award will be presented during a luncheon ceremony at the Sister Cities International annual conference in Atlanta July 28.
The nonprofit organization works closely with U.S. communities to develop lasting relationships with counterpart communities in other nations.
