Another Report Shows Gas Prices Leveling Off
Retail gasoline prices declined in California and nationally, the Energy Department said. It was the second report in two days suggesting the recent record run-up at the pump is reaching a plateau.
The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California fell 3/10ths of a penny, to $1.951 a gallon, in the last week, the department’s Energy Information Administration said.
The national average price for self-serve regular fell 2.6 cents to $1.687 a gallon, according to the agency’s survey of 800 filling stations. That decline, the first in nine weeks, nevertheless left U.S. prices 16.1 cents above those a year ago.
