Threat Against Council Members to Be Probed
Police officials in Mission Viejo will ask the Orange County district attorney’s office to investigate what some City Hall officials described as a threat against three council members.
Last week, a man--who police would not identify--commented to a City Hall secretary that three council members “needed to not be” alive and that “one of these days, someone was going to take care of them,” according to an e-mail City Manager Dan Joseph sent to the council last Wednesday.
Sheriff’s deputies later questioned the man but did not place him under arrest, saying he posed no threat.
On Monday, Sheriff’s Lt. Stan Jacquot said the department’s report on the incident will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office as a matter of protocol.
“They decided that he should not be taken into custody, and they backed off and handled it through the normal process, which is to take a criminal report and then refer it to the D.A.’s office,” Jacquot said.
The incident alarmed some council members. Two additional uniformed deputies were in attendance at Monday’s council meeting.
