Moss Unlikely to Receive New Deal Before Season

Tim Burnette of San Clemente High and Kristen Mann of Foothill were named Orange County athletes of the year by the Orange County Athletic Directors Assn.

Burnette, a 6-foot-7 defensive end who will attend Washington State on a football scholarship, is also one of the county’s top volleyball players, leading his team to the section quarterfinals. He also was his school’s most valuable basketball player after leading the Tritons to the section quarterfinals.

Mann, a three-time Times’ All-Orange County first-team basketball player, will attend UC Santa Barbara. She also has twice been a first-team all-county softball player.

Newly acquired forward Onandi Lowe scored a goal in injury time as the Kansas City Wizards defeated the New York-New Jersey MetroStars, 1-0, in Major League Soccer at Kansas City, Mo. . . . In the WUSA, Cindy Parlow scored on the first shot of the game and Briana Scurry had her fourth shutout of the season as the Atlanta Charge defeated the Philadelphia Beat, 2-0, at Villanova, Pa.
