Taking a Ferry From Maui to Molokai

Share

For the first time in five years, there’s a regularly scheduled ferry between the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Molokai.

The 149-passenger ferry, called the Molokai Princess, is run by Maui-based Island Marine. Carrying passengers and bicycles but not cars, it makes one round trip per day on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and two round trips on other days. It runs between Maui’s Lahaina Harbor and Kaunakakai on Molokai. The trips, which began this month, take about 1 1/4 hours each way.

The one-way fares, at $40 per adult ($20 per child), are about half the cost of flying. One-way, nonstop Maui-Molokai fares on Island Air, which makes two daily round trips, start at $74, a spokesman said. (To make the trip on Hawaiian Airlines you must connect via Honolulu, for $79.75 one way.) Tel. (800) 275-6969, https://www.molokaiferry.com.
