Boron 5, Grace Brethren 4--The Lancers allowed three unearned runs in falling behind 5-0, then scored four runs in the seventh inning before stranding the potential tying run at Grace Brethren.

Left-hander Darren Green (9-3) shut out three-time defending champion Grace Brethren (18-8) on three hits through six innings, but Nate Maddox tripled home R.J. Blackwell, who had walked, with one out in the seventh.

Billy Padot singled in Maddox before a two-out error allowed two more runs. Green then struck out Christian Burkhardt, the only Lancer senior.

Boron (15-12) scored an unearned run in the first and two unearned runs in the seventh. In the sixth, Ricky Hughes doubled in Noah Cook, who had singled. Chris Owens relieved starter Daniel Beaty, but Owens gave up a run-scoring double to Ethan LaMoureaux.

“We had a hard time getting hits with runners in scoring position. . . . I think we were one for 14 with runners in scoring position,” said Coach Dave Maddox of Grace Brethren, which stranded eight runners and committed five errors.
