Discussions Held Over War Effort

U.S. and Japanese officials discussed Japan’s contribution to the war against terrorism under a new law allowing the Japanese military to provide noncombat support for the U.S.-led effort.

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi’s administration wants to complete a plan for Japan’s military help with refueling and reconnaissance missions by mid-November, a Japanese newspaper reported.

Japan has decided to deploy as many as six destroyers and four transport planes for at least three months, the Asahi Shimbun newspaper reported today.
