Devils Continue Hot Streak

The New Jersey Devils finally look like the Devils of old.

New Jersey extended its winning streak to six Thursday night with a 5-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at East Rutherford, N.J., in one of its most dominant efforts of the season.

“Tonight we played the way we played last year,” said Patrik Elias, who scored twice. “The whole team contributed. We played a good brand of Devils hockey tonight.”

Andreas Salomonsson, Sergei Nemchinov and Randy McKay also scored for the Devils who have not lost a game after opening the season winless in their first four.

Martin Brodeur made 22 saves.

Pittsburgh 3, Toronto 1--Robert Lang scored a goal and assisted on another as the injury-depleted Penguins won at Pittsburgh.

The Penguins were without Mario Lemieux, Alexei Kovalev and Martin Straka.

St. Louis 4, Carolina 3--Keith Tkachuk ended a five-game goal drought when he scored twice in a span of 33 seconds in the second period to lead the Blues at St. Louis.

Calgary 2, Columbus 1--Chris Clark scored the game-winner late in the third and Roman Turek made 26 saves as the Flames improved to 6-0-0-2 at home.

Vancouver 4, Montreal 0--Dan Cloutier stopped 17 shots for his second shutout this season and the Canucks scored three times on the power play to win at Vancouver, Canada.

San Jose 5, Atlanta 2--Vincent Damphousse scored the go-ahead goal in the second period at San Jose, only 24 seconds after the Thrashers had tied the game, and the Sharks went on to their third consecutive victory. Teemu Selanne also scored for San Jose.
