NOT IN THE SUMMARY: UCLA was without DeShaun Foster and Tab Perry, but got back two starters on offense. STAT WATCH: Onterrio Smith had rushed for 437 yards in the Ducks’ last two games, but was held to 22 yards in six carries in the first quarter. Maurice Morris, who split time with Smith, gained 29 yards in five carries.

SECOND QUARTER

Oregon 14, UCLA 10

THE SCORING: * Oregon: Morris one-yard run at 13:20. 80-yard drive, 10 plays. PAT--Siegel (kick). * UCLA: Griffith 20-yard field goal at 4:23. 46-yard drive, nine plays.

TURNING POINT: After a 49-yard catch by cornerback/option quarterback/receiver Matt Ware with under a minute left, UCLA failed to connect on two pass plays into the end zone from the Oregon 39. Then Cory Paus got sacked for a nine-yard loss. UCLA let the final few seconds run out.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: Oregon cornerback Steve Smith deflected both passes in the end zone near the end of the quarter. On the second play, Smith barely deflected the ball before it hit Poli-Dixon in the shoulder pads and bounced away.

STAT WATCH: Oregon’s ground game distanced itself from UCLA’s duo of Harris and Manuel White. The Ducks outgained UCLA in yards rushing in the first half, 124-53, including runs of 30 and 42 yards by Morris.

THIRD QUARTER

Oregon 14, UCLA 13

THE SCORING: * UCLA: Griffith 37-yard field goal at 11:14. 57-yard drive, nine plays.

TURNING POINT: Craig Bragg kept alive a UCLA scoring drive, snaring a pass between two Oregon defenders for a 54-yard gain on third and 17 to put the Bruins at the Oregon 39. The Bruins converted on a 15-play, 97-yard touchdown drive early in the fourth quarter.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: Oregon gained only 46 yards in the quarter, only seven yards rushing. “That was hands down the toughest defense we’ve seen this year,” Harrington said.

STAT WATCH: White churned out tough yardage and the Bruins dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 10:03. White had six carries for 28 yards in the quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

Oregon 21, UCLA 20

THE SCORING: * UCLA: White one-yard run at 13:56. 97-yard drive, 15 plays. PAT--Griffith (kick). * Oregon: Josh Line one-yard pass from Harrington at 9:56. 70-yard drive, eight plays. PAT--Siegel (kick).

TURNING POINT: Obviously, the last play of the game. Griffith went wide right on a 50-yard field-goal attempt after the Bruins were stopped on a third-down run. The Oregon fan section in the northwest corner of the Rose Bowl went wild.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: The Bruins stopped Oregon three times inside the five-yard line, including two consecutive times at the UCLA one, but were fooled on a play-action pass from Harrington to Line on fourth down.

STAT WATCH: Harrington has led Oregon to nine fourth-quarter comebacks in his career. The Ducks won the 500th game in the program’s 106-year history.
