Two Ojai mountain bikers reported missing after an overnight trek into Los Padres National Forest were found after hiking about 20 miles, authorities said Tuesday.
Matthew Berban, 33, and David Kelley, 40, were found Monday evening by search-and-rescue volunteers from the Ventura and Santa Barbara counties’ sheriff’s departments and the U.S. Forest Service, said Ventura County Deputy Frank Underlin.
The Ventura County team rescued nine other people--including three motorcyclists--earlier in the stormy evening, Underlin said.
The two mountain bikers were found just before nightfall Monday at a ranch near their starting point, according to authorities. The men told rescuers they had abandoned their bikes in the rain and hiked about 20 miles.
