Private Information on Sheriff’s Staff Stolen
A confidential list containing private information about 2,500 employees of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department has been stolen, sheriff’s officials said.
The theft occurred Sept. 21. Since then, at least two deputies have been victims of identity fraud, said Sgt. James Lewis. One transaction reportedly involved a $5,000 small-business loan application. Sheriff’s officials could not connect the roster’s loss with the fraud.
The 30 pages of information contains names of all employees, with their rank, badge numbers, dates of hire and Social Security numbers.
