Pepperdine (1-0) at UC Irvine (1-0), KPLS (830), 7--Newcomers had impressive debuts for the Waves in their 75-58 victory Saturday over Cal State Fullerton. Freshman guard Terrance Johnson had 14 points and junior college transfer Jimmy Miggins added 12 with seven rebounds. New Coach Paul Westphal figures to have a tougher time with the Anteaters, led by All-American candidate Jerry Green. Green, who returned for his senior year after going undrafted by the NBA, had 22 points in a 71-64 victory Friday over St. Mary’s. Irvine, with 7-foot center Adam Parada and 6-10 forward Stanislav Zuzak, will look to use its size advantage and slow the game down.

Dominican (4-0) at Cal State Northridge (0-1), 7--The Matadors, with a vastly different look from last year’s NCAA tournament team, had an inauspicious debut in Saturday’s 10-point home loss to Nevada. Guard Markus Carr, one of only two returning starters, had a game-high 30 points but no other player reached double figures. Dominican is an NAIA team from San Rafael.
