Terrorism-Related Questioning Underway

From Times Wire Reports

As part of a national effort to obtain information about terrorists, authorities here have begun questioning a group of foreign men in what are described as voluntary interviews.

The interviews are the result of a directive from Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft authorizing officials to question nearly 5,000 young men who legally entered the country after January 2000.

Federal sources said the San Diego list includes fewer than 10 men--a much smaller group than other regions in the country.

Gina Talamona, a Justice Department spokeswoman, said the men are not suspects. “They’re simply people who may have information,” she said.
