More Than One Way to Create Demand
The airlines are crying that they are able to fill only about 70% of their seats and they might have to cut more flights. Cutting supply certainly would be one way of raising demand, but in doing so they would also would cutting customer service [“Millions of Americans Still on Fence as Flights Fill Up,” Nov. 9].
Another way of creating demand and providing extra customer service would be to cut prices. The airlines pretend they are having sales and cutting prices but, aside from smaller airlines like Jet Blue and National, I haven’t seen many cuts that I would call much of a deal.
