Hollywood Leaders Are Summoned to White House

The White House has requested a third meeting with Hollywood power brokers--to be held Dec. 6 in Washington--for an update on wartime projects by film studios and television networks designed to polish America’s image abroad.

President Bush’s senior political advisor, Karl Rove, dispatched two of his staffers to the West Coast in October to meet with mid-level producers, some network heads and others.

After a second meeting Nov. 11 between Rove and the heads of every major studio and network, both Rove and the entertainment executives publicly pledged to continue working toward a better depiction of America.

Next month’s meeting at the White House is being cast as “a follow-up meeting to bring the studios’ Washington representatives up to speed on earlier discussions,” Bush spokeswoman Anne Womack said.

She said Rove “may drop by, but he’s not conducting the meeting.”
