Actress Gets Probation for Running Down Boy
Actress-model Rebecca Gayheart pleaded no contest Tuesday to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in the death of a 9-year-old boy in June.
The former “Beverly Hills 90210” star wiped away tears as Superior Court Commissioner Gary Bindman sentenced her to three years’ probation, suspended her driver’s license, imposed a fine and ordered her to produce a safe-driving video.
With the plea, Gayheart, 29, avoided a possible jail sentence.
She struck Jorge Cruz Jr. on June 13 in Hollywood. The boy died the next day of severe head injuries.
Police said several cars had stopped to allow the youngster to cross a street when Gayheart’s auto entered a left-turn lane to pass the cars and struck him.
