Filmmaker Paul Schrader, best known for his collaborations with Martin Scorsese on “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull,” will deliver this year’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Marvin Borowsky Lecture on Screenwriting. Growing up in a strict Calvinist environment, Schrader didn’t see a movie until he was 18 but quickly developed into a cinephile, spending time as a film critic before launching his screenwriting career with “Yakuza,” co-written with his brother, Leonard. As a writer-director, Schrader has made a diverse group of films, including “American Gigolo,” “Mishima,” “Light Sleeper” and “Affliction.” The lecture, inaugurated in 1974, is named in memory of Borowsky, a screenwriter, novelist and teacher.

Ray Bradbury’s “Falling Upward,” a gentle, futuristic fantasy about the lives of regulars at a small Irish village pub, has found a new home. Presented by Bradbury’s Pandemonium Theatre Company, it is reopening after an extended run at Theatre West.
