Potvin Still Sitting, but He Isn’t Complaining

With Felix Potvin sitting out again Thursday night while backup goaltender Jamie Storr made his third consecutive start and fourth in five games, King Coach Andy Murray spoke with his No. 1 goalie and liked what he heard.

“Obviously,” Murray said, “you want to communicate and keep the line open. We talked about it. You think about things as the coach, like you want to get your No. 1 guy back in there, but Jamie has played well.

“What Felix said, I thought, was tremendous. He said, ‘I’ll keep working, and the next time I get in there,’ he said, ‘I’ll play well enough that I’ll play the next 30 in a row.’

“You like to hear that kind of an approach to it.”

Murray also praised Storr’s attitude. Long regarded as somewhat erratic, Storr, 25, has grown up this season, the coach said.

“To me, he’s more professional,” Murray said. “He’s carried himself better. Whether [goaltending consultant] Andy Nowicki had that influence on him or it’s Jamie himself, I think he’s more professional.

“He’s here early at the rink, he’s paying more attention to his off-ice workouts and he’s working harder in practice.

“So, I think there’s a degree of professionalism that comes with maturity. I think he’s a more mature professional.”
