Randy Travis May Sing New Patriotic Single in O.C. at Weekend Concerts

Country singer Randy Travis has written and recorded a new patriotic single, “America Will Always Stand,” in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon. The single is scheduled to be released next week, and proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.

The song, which Travis wrote with four collaborators two days after the disaster and recorded this week in Nashville, also is being added to his concert repertoire, his publicist said Tuesday.

Travis is expected to sing it at his pops concerts this weekend in Costa Mesa with the Pacific Symphony at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

The orchestra’s principal pops conductor, Richard Kaufman, said Tuesday he had not yet received Travis’ musical arrangements and could not confirm what Travis would sing. Kaufman said he has added composer John Williams’ “Liberty Fanfare” to the orchestra’s portion of the program “as a positive tribute, and statement to the resolve and courage that the country is showing at this time.”

The remainder of the first half of this weekend’s concerts includes selections from “The Music Man” and “How the West Was Won” as well as the West Coast premiere of music from Mel Brooks’ hit show “The Producers.”

The Broadway selections were chosen before the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
